Board of Directors/Scientific Leadership Council Opportunity Amberheart is a federally registered charity focused on creating programmes related to early detection and increasing awareness of breast cancer. Amberheart centers its attention on breast cancer preventive measures, identifying women who, because of risk factors, have a high probability of developing breast cancer and those who, because of qualifying age and/or personal beliefs, do not participate in the government funded mammography screening programme. To reduce number of unnecessary deaths from breast cancer for the past seven years, Amberheart has been on the forefront of efforts to educate medical professionals and the public at large, both in Canada and abroad. Our organization is governed by a small international board of directors whose professional excellence and hard work enables Amberheart to provide high level, quality programmes that have a positive, lasting impact on those they serve in Canada and in Europe. Because the organization intends to expand its educational activities and community research programmes to ethnic, minority and other underserved groups as well as to develop collaborative biotech research programs, we are looking to expand our Board of Directors and to create a Scientific Leadership Council. This expansion will help the organization to develop new strategies and programs, to function more effectively and to provide better oversight for the Amberheart’s work. Thus, we are looking for highly-motivated individuals devoted to the cause of breast cancer to help in creating grassroots-based community prevention and educational programs both for Canada and for countries with limited resources and who will actively participate in research projects. Potential board members should be current patients who want to improve their own quality of life plus that for future patients and breast cancer survivors intent on helping others through a difficult time, which they understand all too well, and who desire a better future for others. We also welcome family members who do not want others to suffer as their loves ones are or have and medical professionals dedicated to breast cancer patients who want to increase their own expertise, teach their colleagues about this disease, prevention, diagnosis and treatments, leading to earlier diagnoses, a better quality of life for patients and hopefully, one day, a cure. Candidates should be capable of devoting part of their time and have wide-ranging backgrounds in fields such as public relations, marketing /communications, legal, development, psychology etc.
