2011 TRI CITY HEALTH DAY Take your health into your own hands and come to the Tri-City Health Day. The 2011 Tri City Health Day will feature a new approach of sharing with the public at large information on wide spectrum of aspects related to health care and disease prevention and awareness. The Health Day event is free for everyone. It will deal with subjects delivered by professional non-profit organizations who will present to the community  recent achievements in various medical fields and about disease awareness, risks and prevention. This will give the public an opportunity to learn about new and exciting health care advancements, ask questions and learn about specific medical concerns which they may have. The Event Topics Parkinson Society BC- An awareness and a basic understanding of what Parkinson's Disease is, the causes, symptoms, treatment options, how it manifests most commonly and how to cope with them. Canadian Mental Health Association Simon Fraser Branch- A better understanding of the connections between depression and overall health, and more information about this valuable program and resource available in the community Pulmonary Hypertension Association of Canada - Educating and raising awareness of Pulmonary Hypertension by sharing patient stories. Amberheart Breast Cancer Foundation - Public awareness of breast cancer, breast cancer myths, risk factors & prevention, not only during the Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing - An understanding of how we hear and how hearing loss develops, increased awareness of the negative effects of hearing loss, current interventions in the rehabilitation of hearing loss (including latest hearing aid technology and assistive devices), and coping strategies for social, educational and employment situations Canadian Diabetes Association Fraser Valley Branch- Information on how to prevent type 2 diabetes and learn about the seriousness of diabetes. This presentation is appropriate for all three key audiences: diagnosed, undiagnosed, and at risk. Denture Care Centre - To focus on denture hygiene as an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Teaches seniors how to avoid serious illness related to bacteria found in the mouth. Village Health Clinic- Information will be presented on the relationship between a refined diet and obesity and diabetes in children and the dietary interventions to reduce children's risk for these conditions. The components of a healthy diet will be presented along with strategies to get your kids to eat more fruits and vegetables. The Arthritis Society, BC & Yukon Division - The information session to learn more about what arthritis is and how to self manage the disease, includes information on pain management, exercise, medication and complimentary therapies. BC Epilepsy Society - To achieve a basic understanding of epilepsy and how the brain functions, to learn what seizures are, what to do if someone has one, and how to prevent them.
